A "preserver" or "sealer" is a liquid treatment applied onto the surface of wood to protect it from moisture, decay, insects, and other environmental factors. This treatment creates a barrier that prevents penetration deep into the fibers, thus extending the lifespan of the wood. It is commonly used as a base layer before adding paint or stain.
